There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I left Murphy, NC Thursday morning on my ST-S to attend a high school buddies reunion. Arrived back home today after 1740 miles. No issues at all with the Spyder on the trip. When I got home, I pulled in the driveway to unload before parking the Spyder in the garage. After unloading, I started the Spyder and got "brake failure" on the display. I pulled into the garage and shut off the Spyder. Looking under it, brake fluid was pouring out of it and there was also a puddle in the driveway where I had first parked. I must have run over something in the driveway that came up and punctured a brake line, or maybe something in there came loose. I got out a flashlight and looked but could not see where the fluid was coming from without jacking it up. I'll get AAA to tow it to the dealer later this week for the repair. My wife asked why I was laughing when I discovered the problem. I said that this could have happened anywhere on the trip and I could have been stranded in the middle of nowhere. Thank the gods that it happened at the end of my trip in my own driveway. Despite this hiccup, I love my Spyder and it performed flawlessly on the trip.:yes::yes:VisitedStatesMap.jpeg

The bike is getting even with you for bringing it home when it didn't want to...
At far as bad situations go; this one could sure be worse! I'm glad that you got it home!
And Good Luck with the repairs! :2thumbs:

Same thing happened to me at the owners event... cept just before getting on the dragon.

Take a look at your master brake cylinder, there's a plastic cap on it. Look on the front, facing your exhaust pipe (which is probably black from burnt brake fluid). Press down on the brake pedal and look for the fluid spurting out the front.

That plastic top warped on mine because of high heat. From the look on Dany (the BRP tech at the owners event) this wasn't the first time he'd seen this... and his look to the other techs read: "I told them this would happen"

At the time I thought we'd be seeing a replacement part for the 2013's that could handle the exhaust heat... but after all the heat discussions I think that'll only mask the problem.

Plastic Top

Sny, what you said about the master cylinder makes sense. The temp today was in the high 80's and there was a lot of heat on the bike. I'll let the dealer repair it and it sounds like it will be under warranty. I have wrapped the exhaust on the left side to combat the heat issue near my left knee. Sounds like I need to wrap the exhaust under the Spyder, too.

Sounds like a Great Trip. Glad except for the prob. at Home. Hope you get it fixed soon!

Bummer..!!

Glad you made it home safely. Sounds like a fun trip hope the reunion went well. Let us know if it was the cap or something else..!!

If you are going to have an issue with :spyder2:, the driveway at home is sure a great place for it to happen.

Let us know how everything works out.

Yes, wrapping the pipe on the left side and putting reflective heat tape on the inside of the panels have definitely helped the heat issue.

John, Glad you were home when this happened. Let Melody and I know when your baby is rolling again. We want to plan a ride with you up around Murphy. Jerry

[SUP]Thanks Jerry. I can't be without my Spyder for very long. I'll let you know when I'm rolling again. [/SUP]

Just an update:

Talked to BRP today. They have a special team handling these melting master cylinder caps who will be calling people who have the problem.

The problem applies to all 2013's and it's likely it will be a widespread replacement issued for these (or a recall as it is safety related.)

Glad it did not happened on the road away from home, the big guy in the sky was watching out for you. Good luck with the repairs.

Ugh. Bummer you have to deal with this. First year model problems can be a pain. Hope they get it fixed soon

I'm hoping they do more than come up with a different plastic part that won't melt as easily... and address some of the heat concerns at the same time.

Master Cylinder

OK, here's what I found out. After talking to the dealer, he suspected that it was the plastic cap on the master cylinder. I removed the Tupperware on the right side and found out that he was right. The front of the cap facing the exhaust pipe had melted causing the brake fluid to spurt out. Looks like there could be a problem with the 2013's. Before I put the Tupperware back on, I wrapped the exhaust with heat resistant wrap. After the dealer replaces the cap, I have asked him to put reflective heat tape on the cap as an added measure. The repair will be under warranty, but just wanted to warn everyone that has a 2013 ST. Don't know if this affects the RS's and RT's, but you may want to check if you live in a hot climate.

Just a question here. If everyone is putting reflective tape on the inside of the body panels to keep the heat from escaping to our thighs and other nether regions will that not increase the amount of trapped heat inside the body panels? Could this make a bad situation even worse?
