There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. F3S SM6 showing check engine light/message randomly - any thoughts/ideas??

I get a check engine message and yellow light randomly. It doesn’t store any codes, it comes on and goes off as I’m riding. It’s at a dealer for the front pulley recall and I asked them to check that. It is alerting on something that it doesn’t have, so the dealer contacted BRP who evidently instructed them to troubleshoot other stuff that it doesn’t have because they overlooked that it is a 2015. Something to do with the clutch system they say. It’s been there three weeks. They seem competent, so hopefully it will get fixed soon. Any thoughts on that?

Unfortunately the check engine light is a default catch all... any number of things or combinations can trigger it, usually a low battery or loose connection somewhere that helps trigger other sensors. So it seems anyway... Sometimes a battery load test &/or cleaning the battery terminals, adding star washers, & a good overnight (12-15h) top off charge can help. Some code/s should be in history (with a time stamp) that the dealer can see in BUDS, along with how often it occurs, with whatever else is possibly related or triggered at.the same time.

Dealer just called and said BRP gave them some things to check and some tech bulletins. They said the guy with talent was out of the office when the dealer first contacted them. Maybe there is a possibility they can fix it without exceeding the value of the vehicle. It is my opinion that built in test equipment which is not 99 per cent reliable is worse than none at all.

Evidently there is a solenoid valve in the clutch control located under the clutch cover that is not installed on F3S in 2015. The computer looks for a signal from it and flashes a code when it does not see it. Their fix is to install that valve, 420664635. Parts and labor about 500 bucks. I don’t know what it does but gave the ok to install it. Maybe it’s easier than trying to convince the computer not to alert on it. We’ll see

Hey Luke. The 2015 F3 SM6 was produced without the vacuum clutch assist that the RT SM6 machines had. Due to popular demand, BRP came up with a “kit” that could be installed as a retrofit. It made the clutch pull effort easier if the engine is running. Interesting, nobody at the time complained about the spurious fault lights, as I recall. But anyway, that solenoid valve is associated with this kit. It was only a 100 dollar part, so for 500 bucks, I hope that you’re getting the complete installation. Here’s a link to the installation document and parts list in case you would like to clarify with your dealer. I’m surprised the parts are still available.

I did that mod to my 2015. The solenoid valve was the only part I had to buy from BRP.
Everything else is common vacuum fittings and hoses.
There was originally a jumper harness installed into the connector, which is most likely to make the ECU think the solenoid is present.
if that jumper is loose or has failed, that's likely your issue.
BTW, the vacuum assist does make riding in traffic more pleasant. I have some arthritis in my hands, and the reduced clutch pull helps.

It's a bit fiddly to get things routed in the tight space, hence the $500 charge.
I think it cost me under $100 in parts for everything.

Thanks very much Doug, that helps a lot!

A jumper. Made me look. Thank-You. Sure enough, the F3 has a dummy resistor installed where the Clutch Solenoid Valve (CSV) goes in the harness. Steps 10 and 11 in the document. That would do it, Luke. I'm sure that you'll like clutch assist, but if they can't get the parts any longer, there's your plan B. Have no idea if the resistance connector can be obtained separately, but something functional could be made up that works if it came to it. Good Luck.
