Great news for my vent swap idea!

After spending all day sunday swapping my fog lights in my RTS for a set of original vents i'm pleased to announce that it has given me great results with the heat issue. I rode for 60 plus miles today and upon returning home I checked the temp with my temp gun and I got a way lower temp. I know the outside air temp is cooler but even if you add the temp difference to my reading it is still way lower! I have been getting temps right at 148 on the cap while riding in 71 degree temps. Today while riding in temps hovering around 59 degrees I got a reading on the cap of 113.3 so even if you add the 12 degrees difference in outside temp i'm still only at 125 degrees and that is lower than 148. I think the vents really helped and it may be the answer or at least part of it. My gripe now is what about my fog lights? Those are an expensive option that came standard on my bike but it runs cooler without them, should BRP buy them back?

Fog light removal and why you might not do that

Pretty good idea, but I wouldn't' plan on BRP sending you a check for the lights.
i ride a lot at night and there is no way I would remove those fog lights here in the North GA
hills, with so many narrow, unlit, deer infested, unmarked roads. There were 6 deer in one cluster right on the very edge in one spot just an hour ago and 4 others grazing at the turn into our street. Those fog lights are on as soon as the sun starts to set. Both my wife and I have struck a deer on the county road near our home in the last 18 months in our cars and we are very aware and cautious about the huge deer population, driving at or below the 35 & 25 mph posted speeds - with trees and grassy spots right up to the edge of the roads, drivers have to be super careful and very lucky. Roads we use are just like going into "Lamont's Estate" with lots of hills, the state roads,GA 140 & 108, are 7 & 10 miles from our place and they are sure not deer free either.
"Be careful out there."

Interesting...I have fog lights on my ST...we have talked about removing the fog lights to see if there would be more air flow....I'll keep and eye on this thread...we need to purchase a temp gun

Good to hear..!!

you have good results sorry you had to sacrifice the fog lights. If you keep it this way you could put the lights up for sale. BRP wont buy them back but someone may need them...keep testing and see if it gets better...congrats..!!

Well it's a bust! I went for a good ride on the highway last night and came home pulled in the garage and grabbed the temp gun, Dang it's right back at 150 again. I thought for sure the vents was going to help, guess not!

3Wheel, step away from the thermometer for a moment and enjoy the ryde!

Adding the vents to where the fog lights are, where did you allow the new airflow go too on the other side of the engine. Next time I take all the panels off I am going to do some serious investigating. I will definitely find a good way to vent out some of the hot air.

I was hoping this would help. Pumping cold air in is only half the battle though, its about removing heat too. Gotta get the hot air out.

Maybe why ??

I've not had the heat issues many have. Maybe because I have the base RT unit SE5, without the fog lights. I've been wanting additional lights, but have been looking at the LED front A frame mounted units instead of the BRP fog lights. I agree, the fog lights have to be a great source of additional lighting for night time driving, and if they are actually contributing to the heat issues, BRP needs to come up with a solution.

I found a solution! Mine is going back. We are going to return it and get a 14 without all the heat and fire concerns. I am tired of trying to figure it out and we really should not have to "reengineer" their design OR spend our money getting pipes wrapped and adding insulation or worse yet worry about it catching fire and burning to the ground! I did not spend $29000.00 of my hard earned money to worry about this crap anymore, i'm moving on...I just wanna ride!

Question: Up under the Tupperware... are there any baffles or blockages that prevent the air from moving rearward and exiting on it's own?? :dontknow:

I'm just Guessing

But you probably won't like that one either:roflblack:

Why is that?? BRP even posted a video online explaining that the new design "addresses the heat concerns riders are experiencing". If I though that BRP would come up with a real solution to the heat underneath the plastic then I would just keep it but Band-Aid fixes are not going to cut it. Clearly you are one of the lucky ones that don't have these issues but there are many of us that do and it's a real concern for some folks including me and my wife.

I feel for your dilemma. But maybe it would be prudent to wait until the 2014's have had some riders report back. You will get the truth from most here, just a thought.:dontknow:

I'm hoping a few get them soon and can get a few miles on them quick and report back. If I order it wont be here till feb. and that's enough time to bail if need be.

I'm at a loss here 3wheel. Mine is a 2013 RT and yours is an RTS. Pretty much the same bike. I have no heat issues, suspension issues or vibration issues. I don't get it. Did they box yours in underneath or something? Just askin.:doorag:
