There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Overheated and I think something blew

I have an 08 SM5 model and while wife I were out riding around for a while last night the Spyder overheated. While I was accelerating from 1st to 2nd gear I felt something wet and very hot splash on my right leg, then my check engine light started blinking along with Hi-Temp, Limp Mode and Check DPS scrolling across the gauges. This was followed by a huge plume of white smoke. I pulled over, and waited a long while, then started the Spyder back up and limped home. It was too hot to mess with last night, so did some checking on it this morning. I pulled the panels off on the right side and checked the radiator bottle, empty. Not really knowing what the culprit is yet, I poured some fluid in the bottle and immeditely had a puddle under the bike.
From what I can tell it is coming out of the seam that houses the thermostat...see pic:

So, question is, do I have this towed to the dealership or is that an easily replaceable part? Assuming that is the only problem.

On another note, the DPS unit is bad on this bike and BRP says it will take a month to get one in to the dealership before it can be replaced. (missing the smokies ride because of this) Most of the time I do not have power steering, but have dealt with it, but I wonder if this is somehow connected to that issue?

So, I will wait for some true Spyderlovers techi help here before calling the tow company,
Thanks!

While you could replace the thermostat housing yourself, you can't be sure this is the only problem. I would have it brought to the dealer, just as it sits, especially considering your steering issues. If you have a cooperative dealer, perhaps they will come over with a trailer to pick it up, after you explain that the thermostat housing is split.

Sounds like a wise plan Scotty, thanks!

You don't want to mess with it- let the dealer do it.

FYI--- in the future you should not restart and ride under those conditions--- park it and have it towed. Running low or without radiator fluid is usually as bad or worse than running without oil.

Hey Scotty,
Dealer came and picked it up this morning...good suggestion on that!

The thermostat housing is not a part they carry, so as usual, my Spyder will be sitting at the dealership more than at my house :cus:
