• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. ran into a fellow rider

today i ran into taxmyzer out at oak beach on long island. he and his wife were out for a ride and they are really nice people. he showed me on his bike how the side plastic started to melt from the exhaust pipe that is right behind it, so i am guessing this is just another thing us 13 rt owners have to look forward to. and i say in jest, I LOVE MY BIKE-I LOVE MY BIKE- I LOVE MY BIKE

I just read your post after I posted mine. This is getting crazy why is it we the consumer, are trying so hard to figure out what's going on with these bikes? Shouldn't that be the job of BRP engineers and designers?

yes

in a word yes, but they say they are going to try and fix it. i really don't see why some bikes run cool or warm and some, like mine at highway speed run very hot. they ordered a bunch of tests on mine once i said if i get burnt or hurt i will sue. but what are tests going to do, they want a buds report and told the dealer what to check. all i know is i am stuck with a bike that i have a love hate relationship with. i love the looks but i hate to ride it, and not one dealer want's them on a trade so i asked for a rebate towards a 2014 and they said no ( brp ) i even offered to take a 10k loss on a trade and the dealer said no. so i will see what happens next week when the bike goes into the shop, and i will bet my bottom dollar the bike will be there the whole week and the answer i get is going to be ALL LOOKS GOOD WITH THE BIKE.

Has anybody, including BRP engineers, actually took a hot running and a"normal" one side by side for a detailed inspection ?
Two case from a long time ago, when I did this stuff.
A certain model car was having all kinds of idle problems, but everything seemed to in the right place and working properly. A fellow student at a adult auto course were told, if you can find out is going on, you will both get "A"s. (not sure what it would have been otherwise). He just happened to have the same model car and running fine. We went over both for a while. The only difference seemed to be the placement of two vacum lines off a supply sourse. They were only about a half inch apart. Switched them to match the good running one. Settled right down. Our instructor said, that was not possible to make that much difference. We proved him wrong and got our A.
Another was on Honda 350 CC bikes. They would run fine with the points cover off, but at normal road speed with it on, they would miss fire a lot on some bikes. Inspection disclosed no wire breaks or anything else. Come to find out, the old frabric covered wire could get between the cover and the engine, shorting out at high voltage.
Could it be some just as strange with this problem. Just a idea

While talking to one of the owners at my dealership today; he DID mention that BRP seems to use the customers as test pilots more than the other manufacturers do...

The've been HAMMERED by 2013 owners looking for solutions. He mentioned that re-flashing the ECMs seems to help a little...a little... :gaah:

Sorry to sound stupid what does re-flashing the ECM's mean

John it was a pleasure meeting you & your friends today. I hope you get answers to your problems on Tuesday. Please let us know what the dealer finds with your bike.

Got off the phone with BRP, Steve, who called my dealer and requested additional tests and would contact me in about two weeks. :banghead: As it turns out my tech had already done them and forwarded the info to BRP. My tech called me to say he had been ctd and he had sent the tests. He said that BRP has a way of determining if there is something else going on that the dealer tech don't have. The tech did a BUDS and went over everything he could and could not find any reasons why my :spyder2: runs so HOT.

Now it's a wait and see what happens next. I will not go out and spend $$$ to fix the heat issues, that is BRP's responsibility. After all I spent way to much $$$$ for a :spyder2: that is uncomfortable & no fun to ride.

hope we were not too much for your wife. my friend chuck that i ride with and i are really good friends and we break each others chops all the time, so people say we should be married the way we pick on each other lol

The Wife & I went riding today on our 2013 ltd. the bike runs great,so much better than our 2012 did but man the heat coming off the right panel. I guess I'll wait for it to catch fire and then get the 2014. Whats a guy to do if the dealership can't get it right let alone BRP. Guess that's what insurance is for :)

Have you posted any pictures of your melted panel? That is one problem I've not seen reported on SL yet.

I'd be laying some heat barrier stuff up under the Tupperware to keep it from melting...
Granted; it'll take WAY longer to pull the panels than it will to install the "tape"; but it is a solution that's workable by us.
Oh... This situation ISN'T what insurance is for. Letting aknown condition continue to deteriorate until a larger problem occurs is actually grounds for a Company to deny coverage for a claim... :lecturef_smilie:

Bob,

Why do you think it is the owners task to fix/repair a HEAT ISSUE with their own $$$$ ?? It is BRP's responsibility as they know about the issues and continue to provide NO relief. :gaah:

For the $$$$ we spent on these :spyder2: BRP should be stepping up to help. So far with my HEAT ISSUES all I have received is "take it back to the dealer" and the dealer says "can't find anything, waiting for BRP to come up with something".

I  you for what you have done, but I don't have extra $$$$ laying around.

I do appreciate all of your comments on how to possibly handle the heat problems of the 2013, but I do wish BRP would step up and find a solution. They are the ones with the engineers and test facilities. If they came up with a solution, we could all have it done and then dealers would be willing to take the 2013 in trade and others would be more apt to buy a nice used 2013. Right now, it is just too piecemeal and guess work. Something is truly wrong when you pay $30M and the dealer never wants to see you again! :(
