RT Rear Tire Wobble

I don't know if this is correct and thought maybe somebody who's run into this before could help me.
Friday I picked up a my RT from a local dealer that I have never done business with before,
after it had been up there for rear tire replacement at about 9000 miles.

The dealer is about 65 miles for me so I trailed it up there on Tuesday and picked it up Friday.
My mistake was not test driving it before I brought it back home Friday I was in a hurry.

The cost of the tire replacement and labor was $426.50

the wife and I went out to a local restaurant Saturday evening about 5 miles from the house
I noticed a whine coming from the rear wheel and a slight vibration.

It concerned me enough not to go very fast so we sort of limped home and I put in my shop.
Sunday I raised it up on some Jack stands and found the pulley had a slight wobble to it
also the tire seem to wobble a little no noise. The right side of the rear rim while was turning
seem to be straight as an arrow no wobble but the left side the side with pulley wobbled.

I abandoned the Sunday 200 mile ride to the Shenandoah Parkway because I was unsure

about this wobble.

Could this be a problem with reinstallation of the rim the axles and the pulley?

Below is a link to the YouTube video that I took of this wobble the dealer is close on Monday
so it will be Tuesday before I can contact them.

Any help is appreciated.

The sprocket or pulley seats in some rubber pucks. My guess is they didn't get the pulley completely seated tight or evenly against the pucks. Checking the axle nut for the correct torque might correct it. The tire appears to have a slight wobble too, I'm not sure if that's normal, maybe they bent something during the tire changing process. But being you paid the dealer to install it, I'd have them correct it.

WOBBLE

I watched this video twice and without a doubt there is a wobble in the pulley.

The rubber pucks may be worn too?

:agree: take it back to the shop and have them check it all out.

Little checking..!!

Agree the dealer should re-install that being said there are the pulley mounting to the dampeners in the hub. This may not have seated correctly. Belt running true would indicate wheel axle is straight. The other is the tire bead is not fully seated. But it does seem to be something in the reassembly process..!! :dontknow:

$426.50 for a rear tire installed!:yikes: That is totally outrageous. And then to have them not install it correctly. :yikes:

You cannot tell about wheel runout by looking at the tire. The lettering on the side will always show variations, particularly in a video. The right way to check for runout is to put a pointed wire or a dial indicator, attached to a solidly fixed object, on or near the wheel rim itself, and look for excessive variation. As to the sprocket, you face a similar situation. You cannot check at the outside of the sprocket because it is cast and not machined. It is possible for variations to exist there without difficulty. A wire or dial indicator against the flange is the correct way to check. That part is machined, and should run true...within reason.

From what I observed in your home video (which was good idea) The dealer may have bent the rim while dismounting and remounting the tire and may have not goten it center on the rim just quite right. If it was mine I would (1) give him a polite phone call on Tuesday AM (2) ask for someone to recheck it as your not happy (3) Call your credit card company and give them a heads up (4) give the dealer the final word, "I am out of here you'll not see me again"

9,000 miles sounds awfully short tire life

9,000 miles sounds awfully short tire life

Typical for me. On my fourth rear tire at just less than 27K miles. But what is outrageous is the price paid. I just had my rear tire installed and was out the door for $200 plus change. The originator of this thread paid double that!!

I called the dealer today and gave them a link to this website I did not know
they were open on Mondays. The service manager was not there today so
he will call me tomorrow. I'm hoping that the tire was not seated on the rim properly
and the pulley is not set into the inserts in the rim correctly.

I give the benefit of the doubt to the dealer and let him see if he can straighten it out.

But I blame myself for not checking it before I left I should've took it for a test drive no matter who worked on it.
I assumed it was okay but like Ronald Reagan said Trust but verify. Oh yeah I paid cash.

As for the cost it was a little high but I don't have many options close by.
