• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What do you do with your RT-622/Trailer when you arrive at your riding destination, for instance do you take it with you when you go out to eat, maybe go to an attraction or anything like that or do you let the air out of it and put in your motel/hotel room? :dontknow: :chat:

I pick up my RT Limited and RT-622 this Friday. I was thinking the same thing. I may bring along a cable and lock it to something on long trips. Can't see pulling it around everywhere I go.

BTW, Can-Am has a trailer promotion during the month of April. You can get $400 in accessories or $300 off the price of the trailer.

The smaller the trailer, the bigger the theft risk. I don't have an RT-622, but for my other trailers (even the big ones) I carry a tongue lock that fits into the ball hitch, and a padlock to lock the tongue latch open (or closed). A long, sturdy cable and a heavy padlock can be used between the wheels, to slow thieves down, too. Another cable lock can fasten the trailer to a light pole. A trailer cover can make things a little more inconspicuous, but it needs a lock of its own. It also slows down those that might try to break into the trailer. If at a motel, park in a conspicuous spot, preferably near the front door, in good light. If you are still nervous, tow the trailer with you...and be sure to lock the tongue latch so it is locked to the Spyder.

I either just lock it to my bike or if I see a post or something I can put my cable I carry around in the trailer I will do that.
Even in my garage I have my tool boxes and saws cabled down. Can they still take it sure, but wanna make it a little bit
of a hassle.

What I wanna find is some cover I can put over my electrical connection, anybody have an idea of what to use?

We do both

Teddy & I have done both. Just depends on where we are & what we wanna do. When we took it with us to St. George Island Florida last year, most the time, we pulled it right behind us everywhere we went.

On a couple of occasions tho, I unhooked it, put a keyed lock thru the coupler so it couldn't be easily hooked up to someone elses hitch and we also have a thick cable that we put thru one tire and lock it around the axle:thumbup:

Granted, if someone REALLY wanted to steal it, they still could. Just get a buddy to help pick it up and put it on a flat bed, but other than that, it really isn't going anywhere since it can't roll nor be towed.

Congrates on getting your new RT Limited/RT-622, I picked mine up April 1 and I know your going to enjoy it. Ryde Safe and I think Scotty has come up with some real ideas. I need to check with my insur. and just make sure I'm covered for the trailer and its contents when I'm traveling with it and institute some of Scotty's ideas. Thanks Scotty! :2thumbs:

All very good ideas that work quite well. At the end of the day a thief wants easy money. So most look for that first. If someone really wants it, they will take it regardless what we do. As long as you do your do diligence (If you have covered it on your Insurance policy) your Insurance company will help you out for the Actual Cash Value less your deductible. More importantly, the "Stuff" in it is covered by your Homeowners/Renters policy as personal property.

What has seemed to help us in the past with this is placing our Fire Department Always Remember 911 stickers on them. For some reason we have not had a single issues in anyway when we have. :dontknow:

I got theft insurance from State Farm for $20 a year. The contents will be covered by my home owners insurance with them. The bike insurance will cover any damages caused by the trailer if an accident occurs (my fault). This plus a locking cable should work out just fine.

What do you pay a year for your Limited insur.?

I pretty much follow what Scotty recommended. I have a lock through the hitch pin so nobody can just hook it up to their ball hitch and tow it away. I also got a strong cable lock that goes through the wheel and around a shock. If I can park close enough to a pole it will also go around that. Beyond that, as others have said, if someone really wants it they will find a way to take it. I suppose taking it with you wherever you go would help deter theft, but I prefer traveling light once I arrive at a destination.

In addition to the locks we have found that most hotels we have stayed at have allowed us to park under their canopy by the entrance. The desk clerk is an extra set of eyes and a thief would have to be pretty brazen to try to break the locks right by the hotel front door.

I agree Dan, and when you go out at night driving to restaurants or other outings, looking for a place for the spyder and trailer to park that will make it easy to maneuver getting in and out is not always available. :yikes:

Wal mart has a hitch pin lock in their limited boat area made just for trailer hitch pins. The lock is just wide enough to fit over and through the hitch pin. there no room for the bolt cutters to cut the shackle on the lock.

When traveling, or when at home sitting under the carport, I use a Gorilla Trailer Coupler Lock....PLUS lock down the "latch" Check out this link:

http://www.compacc.com/p/Gorilla-Trailer-Coupler-Locks?zmam=51521535 zmas=2 zmac=51 zmap=GO-TRLK

Using the Gorilla, it's virtually impossible to hook it up and drive it away. It fits right over the end where you insert the ball. Rock solid security! :ohyea::yes:
A cheaper way to achieve the same goal is to buy a cheap ball and saw the threaded stud off. Just place it into the trailer coupler and place a lock on it.
