What kind of Jack?

Looking for suggestions/recommendations for a jack to lift the spyder. I have a set of stands but I'm wondering what is the best type(or brand) of jack to use.:helpsmilie: I really don't want to spend alot of money but I also don't want a jack that is going to drop the spyder.:gaah:
Thanks
Dick

I'm just using my manual scissor lift that I also lift my Yamaha XV1600 with. Got it from a Harley shop about 10 years ago. Not many jacks drop low enough to get under the Spyder. However, to get the back wheel out, I had to use the scissor lift, then once up in the air, use a small hydraulic car jack to get enough height under back wheel. If I was flush with money (and had the blessing of the Director of Finance), I'd buy an hydraulic scissor lift that lifted high enough to drop back wheel out in one lift.

Unless your wheels are off, dropping the Spyder off a stand is not that critical. A tripod generally lands well. Now dropping a bike off a stand is not a pretty sight.

I bought the aluminium Northern Tool lift on sale for $90. Super lift, light weight, but rated to 1,800# - use it on my Valk too...

Motorcycle/ATV Jack

I just bought the same jack that "brutus450" has yesterday. It was in a damaged box and did not have the manual. I put it together from the picture on the box,,, don't know how to operate it yet but looks strong.

I have the same style jack as the Sears one's that others have recommended. The Spyder is a little tippy when I use that to raise the Spyder. I also have two jack stands that I put under each side front A arm to stabilize the bike up on the jack.

I just use a car/truck jack that I have had for years. Use it to jack up one or the other end. Lamonster had a photo showing same - forgot which post.

I also have car ramps for getting under the front end. Making oil changes a little easier.

I to use the...

sears craftsman professional. It is light weight, they used the helium process and it almost floats, and does a super job. Tip for anyone that is having to cut back because of the economy... you can get a 1500 lb capacity for 89.99 from harbor freight.

It is made from steel and is a little heavier but it works as good as the expensive one./Ken

I was looking at that one from Harbor Freight. I wondered if anyone was using it and what was their experience was.

Hey Dick, the Harbor Freight jack is what I've got, it lifts the Spyder okay, but I've never beeen able to let it down easy, it pretty much just drops.
