Alternator Shaft Squeal - not a Recall, not a Warranty Campaign, just a TST!

Thought I would start a new thread rather than bury this. Below is the link to the TST regarding the alternator shaft squeal issue. Disappointingly, it’s not what we would have wanted.

It is not a Recall, nor is it a Warranty Campaign. It is a Technical Service Tip. It simply notifies the dealer that there is actually a problem and how to fix it. Because not all shafts squeal/chirp like this, the shop will have to confirm that yours does. Unfortunately, it doesn’t extend any warranty coverage for this specific problem, as a Warranty Campaign would. If you don’t have the BRP or BEST warranty in effect, you’re probably paying out of pocket, unless you have an existing case history on file. And, I’m not positive how that would work. Be your own advocate. So, rather than admitting to a manufacturing defect, BRP has referred to this as “wear”. But, at least a dealer can’t say, “they all do it”.

Have this issue since last August on every start of the engine, cold or hot. When I dropped at the dealer last week to get mine prepared to come out of winter storage, as I reminded them about my issue, they mentioned me about that new TST and they will perform it on mine. I should get my Spyder back next Friday April 17th and will see from there how it goes. Job is perform under warranty as it is a 2024 Sea-to-Sky and still 6 months to go on the original warranty.

My dealer started a case number for my 2023 RT. BRP responded that parts will not be available until November. Has anyone had problems getting the kit? Amsoil stopped the noise for about 5000 miles. It is now back.

My dealer has the parts but says they are waiting on a special tool that is required to get the job done.

Is the 'Special Tool' on loan from BRP? Or do the dealerships keep it? I'm wondering if another dealership might have one that they could send. I'ts not something they use very often.

You have my sympathy - after it took them over six months to fix the air suspension on my then brand new 2021 RT LTD. For me they said COVID stopped them getting compressors from China, which then eventually arrived bad, and with a leaking outflow valve. And then every other part for a complete rear air suspension rebuild, as the bladder had a hole, the pipework leaked, and the manual fill Schraeder valve had debris in it and was leaking. Only when they had a whole replacement kit of parts did it finally get fixed. That o ly took from like September until Easter.

I hope yours gets fixed quicker.

So far, fortunately, my '26 S2S seems to be behaving itself. I live in hope.
