My goodness this is the month of August 2026. Today's number is the 6th of August. I just forgot to post up on this Forum.

August 1st, 76 years old and on the 8th, I did a 30k/18.6 mile walk - 4 hours & 38 minutes. Yesterday, I ached all over!

Well "One's," does not believe that the body is that worn-out. Sometimes they just have to decide what is good for them. Live and Learn is what my mother used to say. I am glad that you are still able to do something like that 30k walk.

I have issues with my feet and am unable to do much on my feet. Just too painful.

Tues August 11th made 80 trips around the sun for me. Cynthia, my wife, gave me a surprise party on Saturday. All my kids, many of my grandkids, and even 1 of the 5 great grandkids made it. Also, my 3 siblings as well as many friends and motorcycle riding buddies made it, so it was a great party. It was a great day.

Both my wife and I have retired and although not yet 80, we are still waiting for either her kids or my kids to reproduce grandchildren, let alone great grandchildren. I think at this stage, I've just given up hope. Good job we have cats.

I dunno, but if either lot of your kids haven't produced Grandkids yet, and you've actually got those 50 years of riding experience you told us you had in an earlier post (and I've no reason or suspicion at all to think that you don't! ) then unless, like me, you married someone a fair bit younger'n yourself (hence my Wife's much bandied about nickname, 'The Child Bride'! ) surely your kids are at least pushing if not past the age where grandkids are becoming somewhat unlikely, if not bloody impossible without a miracle; lotsa drugs & IVF type intervention; &/or maybe fostering/adoption?

As you say tho, Cats, Dogs, other pets, even young Saltie's (don't laugh, I know a couple of couples who have one now! ) can fill the void in your life that not having Grandkids & Great Grandkids can leave, even if you don't realise it's actually there!

Or like I said, there's always Fostering or Adopting - it's wasn't a formal thing with us (altho a few have since been formally 'recognosed'...), but me'n the Child Bride have picked up a few 'Surrogate' Kids, Grandkids, and Great Grandkids along the way, and when the whole lot can make it at the same time (which they often DO! ) our family gatherings are pretty large and quite noisy affairs. But they all get along with and actually LIKE each other too (plus, they put up with me, even seem to enjoy having me around... sometimes! ), and all of them would never turn away a Kid in need, so the 'Mob' just keeps on growing!

So we ended up with a blended family where her and my kids are close together in age.

I’m 67 now and as three of them are boys around the forty mark, I’ve largely given up as they don’t seem remotely interested in being parents. My daughter is a bit younger and has decided that borrowing children from her friends for the day is more than sufficient as she cannot have any for medical reasons.

I started road riding at 16 so at 67, it’s 50+ years of riding. Dang, I’m old.

Our children are all very supportive of each other and my daughter and her eldest actually served in the US Navy at the same time going through training at the same time and place. For having two families slammed together on absurdly short notice, we eloped to Vegas and got married, our kids are really tight and very protective of each other.

We are all getting together over thanksgiving which will be fun.

I retired early and spent the last 11-1/2 years substitute teaching every day until I finally retired again this year, as my wife finally stopped working. So, I just borrowed 150 different kids every day. Now I just meet them all around the town every day and watch them grow up and have kids of their own.

Yes it was a great noisy time. We even had to use a public park to hold us all. One grandson-in-law, who is a brilliant musician and pianist, played a rendition of Fats Domino's Walking to New Orleans, and a daughter and son-in-law came up with a song about some events in my life with the help of AI. Great and surprising party. Thank you all for your well wishes.

Cynthia and I have been married for 17 years. She is younger than me by 5 years but had never been married. I have 5 children and their mother died young at 59 from Kidney failure. Thais did get to meet some of the grandchildren and play with them. As a fantastic seanstress Thais made blankets for the ones she knew and some clothes. When we married, Cynthia just jumped right in and took over the grandmother job like she had been born to it and nobody seemed to object so she is a wonderful part of our family.
