There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Brake rear truck Bar Light

I've been thinking of adding a rear brake LED bar light on the rear center truck lid. My dealer mechanic said that there could be aproblem with the ABS brakes and computor braking program if the brake lights are altered. The brake light package for the touring towing trailer has a lighting kit that takes care of that program, but I don't know if adding the aftermarket brake bar has or can affect the system?

I don't know either but... I have had the hmt light for a year now and it works.. my abs still works... maybe I am just lucky.. or someone is wrong.

Your dealer doesn't seem to know much does he?? Put the bar on it helps people see ya!!! I've had mine on pretty much from the git go and no problems with brakes or anything else. Not ALTERING just adding to existing wireing.

:agree:Had our HMT brake light from Custom Dynamics for over a year and the only problem I have had is the number of people wanting to know where I got it, lol. :doorag:
We added the "running light" feature to it, and a "repetitive-flashing" unit to it, and still have had NO PROBLEM. We love it!! :2thumbs:

ESI RT HMT -JUST INSTALLED !!!

I am by no means a mechanic, so I am thrilled that I installed the ESI RT HMT with no problems !!!!!!!:yes::yes::yes: I called ESI when Spyderfest was on , I spoke to Evan's wife and ordered the HMT, she said that this was an easy install and she was right. It took me an1.5 hrs to do and when I finished everything went back together and worked with no pieces left over.
I followed the enclosed instructions exactly and downloaded the color photos from ESI web site to make seeing things easier. Thanks ESI for making a great quality product !!

One tip that I can offer is to use a long flat handled screwdriver insertred between the two middle wires of the male end of the Rt harness to help push the ESI wiring plug onto the Rt harness this helped me as my fingers could not reach the RT harness. The other tiny problem was that the RT harness was tangled around the ground strap for the radio antenna once I got the harness apart and untangled everything else was easy. So her are some pics.

Oooooohhhh.... (what was I saying???) :roflblack:
Oh! How well do those LEDS tuck into the bodylines?

Dealer mechanic gave you bad info. I have been running the ESI lights on my RTS since they were available. They are beautiful looking, I love them, cars see me well, and have had no electrical problems or glitches. I guess my dealer knows how to read instructions and do installations.

Bob,

I've had these since last fall. They fit into the seam between the taillights and into the gap below the trunklid. They absolutely don't stick out at all. They do, however, stand out! A great product with easy install.:2thumbs:

:agree: I have the HMT Brake Light also. It was an easy install and it looks like a factory installed light.

I did this mod also along with ESI's HMT light and it's by far my favorite project that I've done. Do them at the same time and you will be absolutely thrilled with the look. Kudos to both ESI and Tricplate for outstanding products. Both fit well and look like it came from the factory that way. BTW I only have the HMT come on when braking and feel the effect for the people behind you is better.

Very nice. I have one on my desk right now staring at me begging to be installed. Hopefully this weekend, and hopefully it looks as nice as the job you did! :congrats:

Thanks, Y Rider is correct you only get one shot at sticking the HMT light on the panel and once it is stuck it is really stuck. I had fun with the install.

Sounds to me you need to find another tech!:D

Extra Brake Lites

I have had my ESI lites from the beginning. Will be adding the Tricled 3rd/4th brake lites in a couple weeks. Have NEVER had any issues. My dealer does the install. When I asked him before having installed if they would create any issues he said not if installed properly. Sooo guess mine are installed properly...reallllllly like them. Feel safer as I am more visible plus they look cool and looking COOL is realllllly important!!!!:roflblack::roflblack:

Ref Fitting HMT Unit

The supplied instructions state the following :-

Using wire guide tool from kit, insert tool in between outer trunk side trim panel and into opening for right side hinge.

Insert wire from HMT unit in hole in wire tool and pull wire tool back towards outside panel so wire is now
between outer panel and inner hinge opening

.Just above right side tail light, locate hole where wires and antenna cable pass upward towards trunk. Insert wire tool in this opening pushing upward until tool is visible between outer panel and trunk hinge

Insert wire from HMT unit into wire tool and pull wire back down until it emerges from opening above right
side tail light

I amended my fitting as follows :-

I was concerned that with the opening and closing of the rear trunk I may accidently trap the wire
so did the following

Drilled holes in the trunk and in the outer speaker trunk panel to allow wire to run through to the existing Brake light connector
This is still well away from any closing edge (See photo)

I Added extra sleeving on the entire cable to also give extra potection where it goes through the holes I also added some Flexible convoluted tubing where the cable runs from the hinge to the HMT Unit
again to give extra protection
I then used a zip tie to ensure the Flexible convoluted tubing would not rub against the top trunk edge
this flexible tubing runs in the hinge recess away from the edge of the trunk (see photo)

I also found by taking out the top screws holding the Outer speaker panel and undoing the bottom screw
to allow the panel to open more
I could move the panel enough to thread the wire through without the need for the wire tool

All other fitting instructions were as per the supplied sheet

Others may find this information useful

I also didn't follow the instructions to the letter. I hope Evan doesn't rap my knuckles with a ruler for my evil ways. :D I removed the right speaker pod completely, allowing me to run the wire completely inside, and out at the bottom where the speaker/antenna wires exit the pod, instead of snaking the wire out at the hinge. I pushed the wire puller in from the opposite direction, and snaked it out the hinge opening. I also removed the right taillight assembly, to ease getting at the connector. I love my HMT and mudflap lights!
