• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Goin' Retro...

I like it. Ditto: on Forbidden Planet. I have that one and still like to watch it. If you consider when it was made (1956), IMO--the special effects meet or exceed some movies like 2001 a Space Odysey, and Star Wars.

Gene Rodenbury said in an interview back in the 80's that he based Star Trek in some part on the movie Forbidden Planet. Look at the crew. A captain, a science officer and a Doctor. The cockpit of the Movie's Spaceship was set up very much like The Enterprise. There are other similarities but I have forgotten them.

1956 is also the year that changed my life; it got it started! ;)
So Robby and I sort of grew up together!
(How come HE still looks so good?)

My Missus and I had a running "Hatchet Battle" over this issue... :yikes:
I was sure that they were the same; she turned out to be right... :opps:

But I still maintain that they're close relatives...

For the longest time I thought Robbie and The Lost in Space Robot were the same, but now I see they weren't.

Is anybody else but me bothered by the fact that he/she saw Forbidden Planet in the movie theater when it was first released? Is anybody else bothered by the fact that they can still rememebr the name of Robbie the Robot after all these years, but can't remember what he/she ate for breakfast?

Best science fiction character ever...IMO!!!

Although I didn't see it in the movies I do still remember his name. As far as remembering what I had for breakfast, uh...

The robot from Lost in Space was loosely based on Robbie.

Does anyone remember who "played" Robbie?

Robby was played by himself.
